• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the likelihood of a fresh depression forming over the Bay of Bengal by October 31,
• This development follows the formation of a low-pressure area currently active over the South Andaman Sea. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. IMD Director General Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the system could further intensify and move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the subsequent two days. Rainfall is anticipated in Odisha starting from November 1, as the state continues to recover from the impact of Cyclone Arnab.

Impact & Risks

The potential depression over the Bay of Bengal could bring significant rainfall to Odisha starting November 1, 2026. This may exacerbate the challenges faced by the state, which is still dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab. The system's movement towards the Andhra Pradesh coast could also pose risks of heavy rainfall and associated disruptions in the region. Residents in the affected areas should remain vigilant as the system develops further.
